I remember flying back from Dunkeswell to Gloucester and doing the nuclear hattrick. I flew over (very nearly but then remembered the 2 mile radius to comply with the ANO) Hinkley Point, Oldbury and Berkley power stations, as well as both Severn Bridges. According to my logbook that was August 07, and I’m pretty sure site to the west had been cleared for Hinkley Point C, despite it not being given the go ahead until 2008. Who’s going to take bets that its online for 2028? |

Nobody sane would bet on any predicted “grid connection” date for an EPR built by EDF. It would be like predicting when the new Berlin Airport (BER) – latest “this time we are really going to open up” date is October 2020 – but then, the original plan was October 2010, then 2012, then early 2013, then late 2013, then…2017, then 2018, now 2020. Do we get closer? Some things like screens already needed replacement because they were now 10 years old… KEPCO seems to be the only company able to build nuclear reactors with western standards under tight regulations but still on time and within budget. |
