There has been a explosion in my RSS feed from this forum. But I get annoyed with the content of the explosion. I wish there was more respect and kindnes. We are different , I like something that you don’t. That doesn’t mean that you need to write 1000 posts of why you don’t. There has been much depressive talks about oldtimers who says that a limitation or insecurity is a feature. Well it is like that for me. I probably wouldn’t spend many days and nights coding if it wasn’t fun. RISC OS is fun to code with, and wouldn’t be so if it was tied up like linux. But thats just my opinion. I don’t force it on anyone. So peace and love! :D |

I’m not sure why you think Linux is less fun to code for. Any proper pre-emptive multi-tasking OS allows you to pause your code in a debugger while the rest of the machine, including your development tools, carry on running. Compare that to RISC OS with DDT, the entire machine stops and your are forced to use a very primitive debugger in a couple of RISC OS 2 style windows. I don’t consider that to be much fun. |

I am more excited than depressed about the future of RISC OS. OS: R.O.O.L, R.O.D and now, hopefully, Cloverleaf. Hardware: Titanium, ARMX6, Beagleboard, Pandaboard, various flavours of Pi and not forgetting RPCEmu. Software: On my this my favorite computer platform I can talk directly to the software developer if I have problems. As for critical comments I put that down to lock down. Regards Ron. |

I like the Linux port. It means I can run it on hardware of my choosing. It gives me a way of running RO on my Pinebook, but it gets hot and kills the battery. Pretty sure that’s down to the screen refresh issue. That being said, the Linux port runs quite well without the renderer, and having the RO VNC server configured. It’s a good secondary use of a headless SBC. Linux port aside, I like being able to manipulate hardware directly. I also think that RO has a couple of the best text editors out there. NFS support through Sunfish and Moonfish are so much easier than some platforms. Sunfish also has a lot of options including some nice “hidden” ones such as being able to set a share as an arbitrary directory. |

It should become an official port, IMHO. |

I also find the linux port very interesting and would like to see it proceed further (actually havn’t tried it because it seemed to be quite complicated to get it running and I don’t have an ARM machine except for the RPi 3 where it doesn’t make a lot of sense). |
