Say what? A medical equipment product gets a mention round here? (OK, it’s Aldershot anything goes if it isn’t offensive) The reason? |

I presume the markup is sufficient to generate a Prophet? |

I haven’t enquired about the cost, but I’m sure HD Medical are hoping for a large slice of the Pi. |

And what happens when somebody takes a device that would usually specifically disclaim use in medical and life-saving environments…. and puts such a device in a medical (potentially lifesaving? (I note it’s Cardiology!)) device? |

Depends whether the rest of the device can still serve the lifesaving function adequately even if this particular part fails. |

Well if you follow the trail beyond HD who are doing the (technical) sales and look at PaceAnalytical (top left of the page) you quickly find that they have FDA approval1 so what’s the worry? 1 There’s actually a set of UK regs they should match. The boys in MEBS have lots of fun with that. |

Yeah. Like I’d trust Americans to approve anything right now. I have one word for you: Boeing. [link] |

It’s a bit more complicated. |

The Boeing problems were that they were scared of Airbus, and concentrated on speed rather than safety, and ultimately tried a software hack to make an aircraft that had none of the flight characteristics of the 737… have the flight characteristics of the 737… And the regulatory body probably saw that the European/French were coming out with something new and since America is somewhat protectionist, they basically handwaved the differences through. Now, I can understand Boeing chasing the dollar, it’s the American way. |

To me, handwaving by a regulator as described above would be corruption, not simply neglegence! |

Exactly so. |

It’s how the USA gets round state aid – give large value contracts to the companies (see the Boeing ISS freighter capsule) that you want support against their foreign competition, look the other way to avoid extra costs for them and just hope it all works out fine… |
