I’ve been told, from across the room¹, that the whole family seem to have dropped off twitter since the victory announcement on the TV networks.
Maybe they all tried to shred their phones?

I didn’t get that far. But I did have a turbo go on our 2004 Honda Accord Tourer a year ago, at 165km. Fabulous noise. Halfway on a trip from Greenock to Ely, Cambs. Knew exactly what it was, of course; knowing it was the exhaust side that had gone, limped the rest of the way – another two hundred miles and got a recon turbo.

It’s nearly always the exhaust end of a turbo that fails, which can take out your cat; at least it’s very rarely the inlet end, which would very likely take out the whole engine. We were lucky: the cat survived the experience.

The beast just sailed through its MOT again on Monday. Sadly its emissions specs, while good enough for London, aren’t good enough for Berlin, so we borrowed our son’s petrol Volvo for a trip to Berlin. Which uses 50% more fuel than the diesel Honda, and consequently produces 50% more carbon dioxide; but not as much particulates out of the exhaust. Just as much from the tyres, of course…
