Well, it has finally come to be. Post 10,000. Now I get to tick off an entry on my bucket list. I wanted to write ten thousand posts on a forum. A bit of BASIC could do that in half an hour, but no, I wanted real posts. It’s taken me eight and a half years (since May 2012), but now it’s done. In that time, many interesting discussions (not all nerdy) with interesting people, half of whom appear to be called Steve. In that time, RISC OS going from strength to strength, along with the RaspberryPi. I mean, the asking price was pretty cheap for a 256MiB ARM11 machine (if compared to the much pricier Beagle). What you get these days for the same low price? Mind blowing. And still, today, the little operating system that was expected to have died off when Acorn ceased is still around, is open source, and is running on contemporary hardware (sort of, some day soon it’ll use those other three cores…). It’s been a blast. So long, and thanks for all the fishes. |

Now that you have the practice just imagine how quickly you could get to 20000! Who is Steve going to talk to now? |

Rick’s ‘late’ mother used to refer to us as his imaginary friends! With brexit & Covid 19 problems – let’s hope he is Ok. |

Well on Rick’s blog he mentions Buffy Season 7 needs to be watched! So I guess he may have a lot of catching up on things to do given how old that is. What ever he wants I think Rick more than deserves some me time given the horrible period he has been through personally. I like others will miss his wise words and humour. Then again it could be like the classic last tour many music stars seem to do only to pop up again a few years later to do the same again and again. Now who is going to be Steve’s best buddy..all those who want to step forward.. :-) |

I joined five years before Rick, but haven’t made many posts up until the events earlier this year because I had better things to do. Now I’ve got better things to do again, but I’m still posting here, damn it! |

Nice round number! With brexit & Covid 19 problems – let’s hope he is Ok Yes, I hope this is really more of an “au revoir”. Stay safe, Rick. I for one will miss your ramblings here (I’ll have to find another stand-in for that fraction of my non-existent social life. Gotta have something to distract me from this Paint Bounty). Just think of all that lovely spare time you’ve now got to get your post count up on El Reg! ;-) |

I think you may find that account stays at 10000. Any possible future posts would simply have to come from a different name. |

I think you may find that account stays at 10000. Any possible future posts would simply have to come from a different name. Absolutely fine. If Rick even wants to disconnect from cyberspace altogether then I wish him well. My hope is he remains connected and well in meatspace. |

The real reason is mentioned in his post – fishes, or rather the French and fishing. Rick knows he has to stop posting with that gravtar come Jan 1st. :) |
George T. Greenfield (154) 749 posts |
Amen to that! I’d also miss the insights into life in rural France, otherwise known as the 18th century :-) |

Rick will have to return to these fora in whatever guise/identity, if only to correct the misquote in the subject title¹. I suspect he’s just having a fit of pique as DavidS is generating more text than he does/did. ¹ fish! |

This forum is broken. It’s telling me that I’ve written eighteen posts. 😉 |
Steve Pampling (1551) 8172 posts |
It’s currently telling me you posted 19 so the count is progressing properly. |

There are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand binary, and those that don’t. |

Blimey. I must be getting old or something. And there was me thinking my brains were still reasonably intact. |

Look on the bright side, at least it wasn’t written in arcane assembler. ;-p |
