Today is the birthday anniversary of Rick from somewhere around Aldershot. I won’t say which, just that it’s a prime number whose digits add to give another prime. Joyeux Anniversaire ! |

Ok, so he’s either; 23, 29, 41, 43, 47, 61, 67, 83 or 89. That doesn’t narrow it down much. But having seen a video of his car, I’m suspecting one of the last two. :) |

I suspect you’ve overestimated his age by at least 10000, probably more. |
John WILLIAMS (8368) 495 posts |
So did you write a proglet to generate those? Just out of interest! |
Clive Semmens (2335) 3276 posts |
I don’t know whether Mr Ruck did or not, but I can work something like that out in my head a damn sight quicker than I can write a proglet to do it. About as quickly as I can type them out, in fact. |

One would need the Eratosthenes’ sieve routine to identify the primes, then evaluate the odd string to identify and manipulate the digits… |
Clive Semmens (2335) 3276 posts |
Well yes, not a hard program to write. But I know all the primes up to a hundred in my head, and I can add their digits pretty damn fast, and already know whether the result is prime or not. |

Sure it’s his birthday? Isn’t this March 291st or something? Happy Barfday indeed. |

<unlurk> Thanks everybody.
If they say you’re only as old as you feel, I feel one of those numbers today. ;-)
Yup, I have something cooking, but this evening I’m probably going to watch The Expanse that is now on Prime Video. Enjoyed Anna and the Apocalypse last night. It’s… a zombie horror comedy musical (!) and the first half was brilliant. The second half, however, remembered that zombies = horror and that’s where it went, quite darkly. Nothing wrong with that, except it was quite a contrast to the first half. </unlurk> |

I think John (Williams) was referring to a date, in particular 12/17. 1217 is a prime and so is the sum of its digits. Of course, this is only true in the Anglo-Saxon notation. In Dutch, for example, it would be 17/12. |
Clive Semmens (2335) 3276 posts |
That makes a sort of sense, although “which” ought to refer to “anniversary” and that ought to be a count of years, not a date. 1217 isn’t prime in every base, either, of course – in particular, it’s not prime in base 8 or base 16. And no, I can’t be bothered to write a little program to work out which bases 1217 is prime in… |

No, I was referring to his age, and my description, happily, did not compromise his confidentiality yet allowed Druck to make an amusing observation regarding Rick’s sans permis, which pleased me! His blog says “40-mumble”, so I was evidently correct in my assumption that quoting his actual age would have been insensitive and presumptuous! I’m pleased, though, that my revelation garnered so many positive responses to counter the two negative postings which he has found very upsetting. Rick may sometimes be blunt, but he is never deliberately hurtful! |

The sequence of MSB first is used in Japan as I recall |

I, accurately, claimed 26 this year. (That needs an Eric Morecambe qualifier) |
Clive Semmens (2335) 3276 posts |
Well, whatever base you’ve written that in, it’s an even number. I can’t tell you anything else about its factors. |
Steve Pampling (1551) 8172 posts |
I will leave it a while before I highlight the comic element a little More. |

Not insensitive. I don’t care. I say “40-mumble” because I pretty much stopped counting (and caring) when I turned 42. As for my actual age, don’t you remember that my email address for the last twenty-some years began with “heyrick1973”? ;-) Right. Four messages. That’s my quota for this week… |

Petit cachotier…
OK, so you’re old :) |

No such thing. |

Ah, so you’re young then. After retirement it becomes possible not to notice the annual event. “Oh! Is it December already? Never noticed November at all…” |
Rick Murray (539) 13850 posts |
You had November and December this year? |
