Misattribution?

In a drifting Community Support thread there was reference to this link https://www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-naf1.htm which refers to:
“From Robert L Sharp: The Economist often gives me a new word, but I’m confused by its reference to the British entertainer Bruce Forsyth: ‘The jokes he makes in his high-camp nasal voice are too naff for reproduction in an upmarket newspaper.”

A later element (Answering) references the personality that I think was actually being described – Kenneth Williams.

So, a few things of note:

1. It’s unsurprising that the questioner is confused as it looks like the Economist was confused first.
2. People are unsure of the origin of Polari, and I wondered whether the forum resident WordHound¹ could find anything
