A strange way to pass the time

As I write this, Prime Video is in the background downloading a new film called Songbird which as far as I can tell from the trailer is a sci-fi horror set in 2024 when Covid has mutated into a highly deadly form called Covid23. People that have it are rounded up and dumped in concentration camps and left to die. And, of course, boy wants to rescue girl or something (gotta have a plot, right?). It’s a strange movie to make in the middle of the current pandemic, and possibly a strange movie to watch during it? Hmm, the film is produced by Michael Bay, but directed by somebody else, so it probably won’t end with a crowd pleasing explosion. Shame. Covid is bad news. Nuke it from orbit, it’s the only way to be sure… |

Well, it’s basically some sort of grievance porn (Wah I can’t go out and that sucks so I’m going to make a film that takes this situation and extrapolates it to be way way worse, and have fun doing so) that has a muddled plot due to the low budget and the awkwardly handled love affair. There were some good ideas, but only fleeting. Shame. Worth watching for Daddario’s eyes and…uh…that’s about it really. |
