Connection refused

Just in case anybody else has had a similar experience I report an unnerving incursion of chaos into this part of the cosmos. I use Messenger Pro (8.04) and NetFetch (5.52) to fetch and send email. Between 13.30 and 15.17 today clicking on the Netfetch iconbar icon produced an unwonted error message Connection refused . The error Log said Connection to mail.plus.net refused . No reason was given. Everything seems back to normal now, but I am left wondering what the reason was. Bit-rot? It would have had to have been a temporary change. The mail server down temporarily? Not according to the Plusnet girl on the phone, but then how would she know? Excessive neutrino flux in an Aurora over Spitzbergen? Bertrand Russell in Nightmares of Eminent Persons suggested that chaos is the ultimate hell; where things happen for no reason at all. I am fresh out of reasons, but maybe somebody out there can supply one? |

The sort of thing that might cause this, and her response, would be if the main mail server was up, but it used a different server to handle authentication (quite possible, as a security measure) and the authentication server was down. |

Isn’t this more of a Community Support than an Aldershot? |

Gavin, I access three PlusNet mailboxes every 10 mins and it has been working without fail through the period you quote. As an aside I notice you say you are using NetFetch 5.52, the current version is 5.53 |

Gavin – maybe they’re using OVH? 😋 |
