The other Aldershot

The other Aldershot is currently unavailable. It is giving a status page with a friendly “Oh crap, SQL error!” message. The reason for this is because the server has run out of space. This happens from time to time. This is why my blog has a big red “you can’t add comments right now” message – it used to be that when somebody tried to add a comment when the server was full, everything would appear to have worked but the comment and the entire rest of the comments for that article, would all have been tossed. Now imagine doing that with an active SQL database. :-/ I don’t know why the server isn’t saying “disc full” or whatever it is that virtual hosts say. I don’t know how anybody thinks that silently dumping data is in any way acceptable on even a test setup, never mind an active client server. The MyBB help usefully says to log into the admin thingy, go into settings, and bump up the amount of logging to get a report of what SQL dodah it is choking on. Yeah, that would be all good and proper if I could get as far as that. So, I’ve asked Rob to look into this. He has the keys to the kingdom, I’m just a guest. |

Oh dear, does that mean the refugees from the last bastion of socialism are going to be turning up here again? ;) I can hear tutting already at the back. |

With SQL, from what I’ve heard1, the main issue that takes down the system by filling the disc is… … the logging. 1 The Server boys comment on “brain-dead installs” by suppliers often enough for it to have registered in my memory. |

T’was fixed just after I went to bed, but then I’m in a different timezone. ;-) |

Not sure about the use of the word “time” in that :) |
