My new active UPS

Once again, a glitch on our electricity supply crashed one of my RISC OS Pi4 computers. So, I decided to make myself a rather big UPS – using a 60 Ah LiFePO4 (lithium) camper van leisure battery. With a 10 amp PCU mains charger and a 300 watt pure sine wave inverter. Rediculously expensive, but I had all of the bits for a camper van project which had been on hold for a while (now possibly indefinately). The UPS is now running one headless Windows XP PC, one headless RISCOS 5.28 Ras P1 3 and one RISCOS 5.28 Ras Pi 4 with a 24 inch monitor. Add to that one TP-Link 4G LTE router and numerous chargers for phones, etc. Oh. and a table lamp with a 100w equivalent LED table lamp. This will now cope with power interuptions of at least 6 hours. |

One surprising outcome from all of this is that the Rasperry Pi computers are now running quite happily using the 5 volt USB outputs from an Eveready surge protected extension lead connected to the sine wave inverter. (No Ras Pi power bricks) |
