I learned it as “cayshe” in NZ, as most people here pronounce it that way. I don’t know whether that extends to Australia or not. (Edit: Seems that it does) Another oddity that we do share with Australia is maroon, the colour, which we pronounce “marone”. Maroon as in stranded on an island, meanwhile, is pronounced like it’s spelt. |

Then there’s Mildenhall. There are two of them. The Norfolk one is pronounced as spelled, the Wiltshire one is “Mine-all”. |

Has the Suffolk Mildenhall migrated into Norfolk, or is there yet a third one? 8~) And Wymondham is more Wind ‘em than Windham – but that’s the pattern for most …ham names, I think. |
