Goodbye

Hello all, It has come time for me to step away from the forum. I had set myself a “bucket list” goal of having 12,345 forum posts, and a short while ago I achieved that (would have been sooner if it wasn’t for nuking loads of posts tidying up the Troll). It’s been an interesting and varied ~thirteen years. From the Olympics to a half-arsed referendum to the end of the world to the end of the One True Monarch. It’s good to see RISC OS is still going after all this time. Thank you, So long and thanks for all the fishes. Rick. |

Quick someone, post something so outrageous he won’t be able to resist replying. Rick, it isn’t a competition for the most or longest posts, though you may qualify on both counts – I really can’t be bothered looking – but an opportunity to get that deep satisfaction of helping someone else from your vast store of knowledge and experience. Or even the satisfaction of just being seen to be right. Or even the joy of getting one over on some of us hapless idiots who post absolute nonsense from time-to-time. OK, feeding the troll shows that you’re not infallible, so should pass on being the next pope! I’m not going to bother wishing you well, as I know where you live! You don’t get away with it that easily! |

Rick, may I suggest another bucket list goal, of 123,456 forum posts? I’m sure you would please everyone with this. |

Poisson d’Avril? |

Arbitrary targets be damned, Rick. We and you are all the better for your presence here. |

Okay, okay… You’ve talked me into it.
Uh, at my current rate, that would take about 110 years…?
Aren’t I responsible for most of that? ;)
I’d think my ‘religious’ views might be more of an issue.
Yup, even including some fishes (intentional error to highlight that word ;) ). |

XKCD is one I hadn’t seen before and, as ever, the irony levels are at 11 because we know the real situation is that you’d really need to promote the idea that someone actually got something right Wikipedia is improving, there was a time when I used to point out that some of the content was right.
Your religious views/beliefs are yours, and absolutely no concern of mine, or indeed any other person on the planet. |

An admin who hadn’t ever heard of XKCD? <swoon>
Not sure it’s possible to have a gathering of one. ;) If you peeked at the links given, you’d soon understand that no gatherings, sacrifices, or burnt offerings are necessary. |

Even if it involves sacrificing babies to the Omnipotent Aubergine? |

Never mind the poisson d’avril. It is our 51-st wedding anniversary. We are celebrating it quietly. |

You’re entitled to have the view/belief. Harm to another person or object in contravention of the law1 will not be permitted, your belief is unaffected, though. 1 Primary law here is good taste, which Aubergines don’t possess. This might be my belief, in part. Secondarily, sacrificing babies, is apparently also bad taste. |

That specific bit of artwork.
I believe it is possible, your belief may differ (you are allowed that, and many other things).
Although the culinary skills do result in the latter on occasion? |

I’m only a little more than a year behind you, Gavin, but mine falls on a day known for nothing. |

Mr Higton, you are in so much trouble if your wife reads that :) |

Add your birthday to help Google comply with the law.
Curses! Should’ve known to choose cats as example, given some of the denizens of this forum. Especially given their known contribution to anti gravity (cats, that is). |

That’s a matter of public record, if they can’t be ar**d to look it up, then their problem. |

Isn’t everyone’s birthday on the Internet 01/01/1970? |
Frederick Bambrough (1372) 837 posts |
Mine will be when I finally give in to giving it but the bit I was pointing to in this context was ‘THE law’. |
Steve Pampling (1551) 8170 posts |
THE law? 1 Yes, I’m getting that look right now. |

It may be an awkward streak, but something in me wants to check whether their system will accept 29/02/1970, but I think I’d need to create a google account to check that. 1 There seems to be an increasing number of these, and at one time it was just a forum or two to bare your soul, but apparently these days something called “only fans” allows you to bare more. |

Improving, but far from perfect. I was looking at the page for a 90s movie and it said something like “it was released on VHS, LaserDisc, DVD and Blu-ray”. I added “HD DVD” to that list. That edit was quickly reverted, along with a rant about how there is zero evidence that an HD DVD of the movie ever existed and that I shouldn’t be adding fake information to a Wikipedia article. I guess the copy I have on my bookshelf doesn’t actually exist then! |
