When I was a child, the old people around me (i.e. the people who, then, were the age I am now) were born in the reign of Queen Victoria.

Given this woman’s parents were clearly Potter fans, it would have been a case of “hadn’t been born yet”.

But, yeah… it was really cool to meet one who knew exactly what Ulysses 31 was ¹, it’s hard enough dealing with the likes of Buffy and Ally McBeal being “heard of it, but I wasn’t born yet”.

I prolly shouldn’t mention I was listening to Simon and Garfunkel (“Bridge over Troubled Water” album) on the way to work, because that one predates me! It’s a little bit of mom leaking out. ;)

¹ She’s called Noémie, nickname “Nono”, which is the same name as the little red robot thing. Kind of blew my mind that Nono is a Noémie (and, thus, female, inasmuch as a robot could be). But, then, it was a pretty weird series, best summed up as “Jesus In Spaaaace set to Greek mythology”. Restored versions are on YouTube.

I just missed out on this – my Nana’s eldest sister was born in 1902.

I have an even closer near-miss. My maternal grandfather always used to tell us “I’m as old as the century!” but it subsequently transpired he was born in 1901, after Queen Vic had popped her clogs.

I remember Supercar and Fireball XL5. Before that, Torchy the Battery Boy who always seemed to be running out of power (zinc carbon in those days), and before that, Twizzle with the ludicrous extending arms and legs. The first programs I remember were The Flower Pot Men and The Woodentops.

My brother had a 7inch EP from Century 21 Records of all the theme tunes to the Gerry Anderson series. I must remember to ask him about it but I can guarantee he’ll have forgotten where it might be!

On a serious note, what I do remember was every evening on the tea time news, there was a map of Korea. It’s sad but nothing much changes does it.

I’ve got the 10-inch version (“No Strings Attached”) which has 8 tracks from Stingray through to Joe 90. I’d hazard a guess it was a compilation of the A and B sides from the respective 4 singles.
