From risc/pi: “Chris Hall was first off the blocks with a short guide on how to get started with Risc Os on Raspberry Pi back in September 201” One presumes the text was in latin and survived on one of those wood tablets people keep digging up near Hadrians wall… |

It would be more interesting to know the age of the youngest current RISC OS user. |

Given the popularity of the Pi, and the NOOBS setup, you might not want to know the answer… Put it like this, when I was getting my internet at a local library, there was a tiny girl that refused to leave to have her nappy changed because she was busy looking up stuff on Wikipedia. Not “Bob The Builder” or some French kids stuff either, but I think she wanted to know what all the stuff in her food was given I watched her look up “brocoli” (French spelling) and follow many of the links in the article; stopping to get her mother to explain complicated stuff (hehe – good luck with “free radicals”!). So we have a very young girl, who can either read well or blag it, not only using a computer but also using Wiki with some impression of proficiency. So… are you sure you want to know the age of the youngest RISC OS user? ;-) |

That is a charming tale, and very encouraging. I quite expect the next generation to have access to genetic modifications so that digital processing takes place within the body. The OS might be something that you have to arrange with the midwife. |

Teacher: What's up with Lucy? Mother : Don't mind her, she's upgrading. Teacher: Are you sure she hasn't crashed? Mother : Yup. When she crashes her eyes turn blue and she starts babbling numbers. Teacher: Ah, yes. Sarah did that. Scared the hell out of me. Mother : What do you expect? We're so old fashioned, we don't even HAVE firmware. Teacher: Ah, yes, there was a time when people used to actually talk to each other like we are now. I still think the new trend of winking messages to each other looks really strange. Mother : The funniest is the look on my girl's face when she receives a winked message from one of her classmates with a broken encoding. Teacher: I have no idea what you just said. Mother : Hehe, I wish I didn't. But after a while a mother gets to know her daughter's backtraces; though I really do wish she wouldn't wake up in a panic at 3am crying and screaming something about prefetch aborts. …to be continued… ? |
