We’re not (yet) planning to leave the EBU, as far as I know… Although the BBC were reporting that “most” Britons wished to leave the contest (where “most” was fifty-something percent, IIRC).

All things considered it’s a surprisingly small percentage.

PS. I wonder what the percentage of “kill it off” votes is in mainland europe. Higher than the UK perhaps?

I didn’t watch ESC, just happened to pass through the room where others were watching, and stopped briefly while a slightly crazy looking chap with a rather good voice was singing in a language I don’t know, but recognized as being Spanish yet not Spanish. He was already performing when I entered the room, and was still performing when I left, saying, “I like his voice.”

Apparently he won.

If it was the winner, his name is Salvador Sobral and the language was portuguese (of Portugal, even if the Acordo Ortografico is trying to kill the Portugal-way-of-write)

Well, yes, I knew it was Portuguese, because it was Spanish and yet not Spanish, if you see what I mean. I don’t really know Spanish, but I recognize it – and Portuguese sounds enough like it and yet different enough to know it’s Portuguese.

If it sounds like Spanish but has a lot of “oosh”, “goosh” and “moosh”, it’s Portuguese. ;-)
