Partitions

At present a filecore partition can happily (and arrogantly) occupy space on an SD card or USB stick with no partition table entry. It would be nice if a utility could generate a partition table entry that protected this space. It would require disc sector editing, taking account of defect sectors, that would generate a ‘filecore’ (there is a filecore partition type defined) entry of the appropriate size and position. This would be a precursor of any filecore ‘partition-aware’ changes. |

This would make multiple boot systems a lot easier. Even an option at the end of !HFORM to write a fresh partition table, with a corresponding filecore entry in whichever of the four positions is chosen. (I think that choice would be an important option, because I believe some hardware is hardwired to look at the first entry, to find a FAT partition to load the system.) |
