Further Paint changes

I’m using the updated ROOL Paint, which provides some very useful improvements. However, its use in high colour modes is hampered by the lack of a colour sampler (or pipette) tool, as found in the Select version. Without this, it’s very tedious trying to select the same colour for pixel operations. Is this something which is difficult to implement? I’d really welcome its addition. Also, it would be very useful to be able to use outline fonts in the Text tool, rather than just the system font. Finally, the look and feel of the app could be made more Style Guide compliant. I’d be happy to help with this side of things, or any other aspect of development which didn’t need C programming skills. Any takers? |

It’s been pointed out to me that RO4/5 Paint does have a ‘pipette’ function, but that it’s accessed from the menu rather than having a button in the toolbox (Paint>Select colour). So apologies for asking for an existing feature! However, it would still be nice to have a button somewhere, and the other requests would also be useful. |

To be honest, it’d be nice to turn the Tools window into a proper toolbar pane window which can attach itself to the currently-edited view. I suspect we might need to get the RiscOSLib sources out before that could be done (although having not looked at the sources, I don’t know if that’s the case). |

Is there any work still being done on Paint atm? It would be a real shame if the promising start made on the ROOL version stalled. I would use it all the time if there weren’t a couple of niggling bugs in the otherwise very welcome sprite sorting function. In addition, the longstanding crashes when using the ‘paint sprite’ tool (fixed in the Select version, IIRC) would be great to get fixed. I’d be very happy to help out with documentation, templates, icons, testing, etc. |

It’s a bit broken in cvs at the moment (some files had their names changed in a submission which broke it). I should have it fixed again this week. Some of the bugs and features require source access to the RISC_OSLib component as programs like Paint, Draw and Edit draw heavily from there. For historical reasons, that is acually housed in the same source component as our SharedCLibrary so has been very tricky (due to third-party code Copyright) to release. Keep watching for progress in this area… |
