In the absence of an ‘official’ release of the BBC Micro (8 bit) firmware, What interest would there be in an attempt to replicate this functionality of this firmware by effectively re-writing the relevant ROMS, based on extant documentation? The fimrware components in question being: The Acorn Machine Operating System (V 1.2,2.0,3.01,3.5,5.0) inc The TERMINAL emulation driver code (TERMINAL and The Acorn GXR Graphics Extension ROM (GXR) The Disc Filing System (DISC) inc. The TUBE I/O host and driver code (Usually in the DISC ROM) and The Sideways RAM Utility code (Usually in the DISC ROM The Advanced Disc Filing System (ADFS) inc. The Acorn Winchester Unit driver code. The Acorn Full Screen Text Editor (EDIT) and BBC BASIC (Versions 2.0 & 4.0) I’ve not included other languages, or View(blah) type packages because they are in effect applications, NOT firmware.. |

The ROMs for one version at least were present in 65Host. Permission was given for 6502em users IIRC to extract them but according to BBC news Castle prefer people not to use them otherwise. |
