Peer to peer downloads of tarballs

Since the sources are so large, have you thought about making them available via something like BitTorrent? That might save some of your bandwidth costs, assuming there were enough people running torrent servers to make it worthwhile: it'd probably be most help when there's a major release and everyone downloads at the same time. Such a download could always be bandwidth-efficiently updated to the latest version with CVS, so it wouldn't matter if it was slightly out of date. Gnutella is supported on RISC OS by CocoGnut, so that might be a sensible starting protocol. Rather than 'cvs checkout' it'd be something like: Use CocoGnut to download md5sum to verify the tarball untar cvs update Thoughts? (I know nothing of the mechanics of running a p2p server) |

Could tarballs be put on Slashdot or something, or maybe the project hosting stuff Google has? |
