RISC OS on Laptop

Sort of… Can we achieve this using RISC OS on a Raspberry Pi? http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/3760 This would be very handy if it’s possible – a bit like a hardware version of RPCEmu. Is there a half decent VNC server for RISC OS that could handle pushing the RPi output to a laptop, and can we do direct cable connection between a PC and RISC OS in this way? |

KVM switches are already available which allow RISC OS hardware to access the same display/mouse/keyboard as a PC and the user to switch between platforms with a keyboard shortcut, and of course the RO hardware runs at native speed. IME of VNC servers on RO the responsiveness and display quality are pretty poor. Alternatively, install RPCEmu on the laptop… |

I could do that, but I really wanted to use the laptop as a keyboard/mouse/power donor – sort of like a reverse PC card in a Risc PC. To be fair, I’ve tried it today and using pretty much every RISC OS VNC server I could find for RISC OS, I could only manage a single colour unresponsive screen. This was using Avalanche, TightVNC, and RealVNC. So I think you may be right, a much fun as it would be to try to get it going, the current VNC servers just aren’t up to it. Anyone have any other ideas for a hardware type solution? |

If you just need a laptop screen/keyboard/mouse for the Pi, there is this idea from CJE Micro’s: http://www.cjemicros.co.uk/micros/individual/newprodpages/prodinfo.php?prodcode=MOT-ATRIX-LD-UK Never used it, so I have no idea how well it works in practice. Quite expensive though. |

I’ve done that one already, I started the thread that kind of kicked it all off on RISC OS. If I’m honest, I think I’m looking for a new challenge, but I like easy ones! And this seemed to fit the bill! Most confusing thing for me with it, is the VNC Server I used on my Iyonix just doesn’t work on the Pi. No errors, just the single colour screen or a constant refusal of connections. Either this or I work out how to cram a model A into a Psion case! No functional use for either, it’s just to see if it can be done! I know the keyboard and screen wouldn’t work, but I’m sure I could do something like Raik and his A4xm eventually. I wish I’d taken electronics at school instead of Computers, where we just played with something called a BBC! Didn’t get anything from that particular ‘O’ level! |

Yes the LapDock is not cheap but I think the display is just amazing! |
