Turn Filer keyboard shortcuts off!

I find it incredibly aggravating the way the Filer now insists on claiming the input focus whenever I click in one of its windows, but never more so than just now, when I realised how complicated Shift-dragging filenames into a TaskWindow has become. Because each filename needs a space, or possibly a command switch, inserted before it, that means I have to keep clicking back in the TaskWindow once per filename! I don’t imagine I’ll ever use the keyboard shortcuts, so is there any way to stop them from getting under my feet? The Filer Configure dialogue suggests not, and I couldn’t find anything under |

Now that would be very useful. |

How likely is it that the TaskWindow could be coaxed into claiming the input focus itself upon dragging a file to it? |

Seems eminently sensible to me. |

For that you’d have to alter the TaskWindow server (usually an editor) that handles the TaskWindow. I’ve changed StrongED such that it now claims the input focus when dragging to a TaskWindow it owns (it already did for regular windows). Also enabled Ctrl-Shift drags to a TaskWindow so that you can insert just the leafname. |

Great stuff, Fred. Thanks :-) |

Don’t forget it’s trivial to knock up a module that filters out keypresses from reaching the Filer. |

If other TaskWindow servers (e.g. Edit/Zap) aren’t updated à la StrongED, is it possible for the Filer to be modified to claim the input focus only when the mouse button is released within one of its windows, i.e. not when dragging elsewhere?12 1 This could still be problematic if, e.g. while bringing a directory viewer to the front by clicking on its title bar, an area of the pane itself is inadvertently clicked on. 2 Also wouldn’t help with multiple file select (I can’t remember if that drops all the filenames into the TaskWindow or not). |

But would they end up where the user expects them instead? |

This has spectacularly little to do with my point. |

Has a way stop the filer claiming input focus been added yet? |
