ROOL store link in the nav bar?

I have a vague feeling this has been discussed in the past, but: Wouldn’t it be a good idea to have a link to the ROOL store in the main nav bar? It seems like it’s an important enough part of the site for it to be included up there. If you’re lucky it might also generate a bit more cash due to people spotting it as they’re looking at the nav bar contents. |

Not only should it be there but also make it stand out a bit. Maybe even have a link to the donate page as well. |

It’s on every Forum page in the right hand column (immediately to the right of this posting on my browser!). |

I’m pretty sure Jeffrey knows that. The point was and is that that store link and the donate link just below is a bit discrete. Think of it as a business advert that gives people the opportunity to chat, live on the page and hides all the products in an obscure small print link at the bottom of the page. Maybe the products should be more prominent? |

Problem is, on the standard Google search page, that’s where the advert stuff used to crop up (not sure if they still do, I blocked them long ago) and I think I’ve subconsciously learned to blank the far right column of my screen from perception. Same happens on quite a few sites, I think. When I read this thread, I realised I didn’t even know the ROOL Store was anywhere on the page! That said, it’s a sort of “advert” but I can’t be the only one who’s ad-blind on the righthand column… |

Yes. Nav bar. Yes. I was looking through the options listed and came across this (my emphasis): Delivered in virus proof read only memory chips, the upgrade is instantly available at power on. |

The advent of other photo sharing web sites has made the ‘Photos’ section largely redundant, so they could be moved (eg. linked to from a news story or diary entry) and replaced by a ‘Shop’ button instead. |

Not so. Here, my usual browser width is a little over a third of my screen width – I’d estimate about 700 pixels. At this size, the main nav bar content just fits – if the width is reduced a little beyond this, links start disappearing off the right. This is partly related to what andym mentions above – ad-blindness in the right-hand column, except that for some sites it’s a physical manifestation of the psychological effect he was talking about: My browser width is just right to hide the right-hand column away on some of the regular sites I read. As Sprow suggests is probably sensible – replace the Photos link with a Store one, and link Photos in other ways as appropriate. |
