To allow operation without a keyboard. eg for touchbook |

For the Touch Book (or anything else requiring an onscreen keyboard) I’m planning on going one better and displaying the onscreen keyboard using a video overlay. Obviously it will only work on systems with video overlays, but it will allow the onscreen keyboard to work outside of the desktop, or in other single-tasking situations (e.g. wimp error boxes). |

Does that mean the program is limited to devices with an overlay? Or just enhanced on them? |

For a desktop onscreen keyboard, there’s the Solo computer project. Does anyone here have any knowledge/experience of this? (However, it seems pretty unlikely that anyone with a RiscPC or Iyonix would ditch their physical keyboard to rely on a touchscreen for typing… in which case I can’t see that it’d really matter if Jeffrey’s superior overlay proposal only worked on newer systems.) |

The Solo keyboard is what I was thinking of. (Functionally it is the qwerty layout and keys such as enter and the cursors that I am requesting be added to chars) It could have uses to an Iyonix (or RPC) user. Multiple languages as mentioned in the page you linked to, emergency use when a keyboard is unavailable or simple interaction on a presentation. The Acorn newspad must have had a similar solution to the problem, does ROOL have access to it? |

NCOS used to have one called !NCKeyboard, ROOL might have the sources for it somewhere inside the unreleased code. |
