I would like to see this disabled or at least hvaing to press it maybe 5 times in a row before the user leaves the desktop. Making this a configurable item would be useful. |

Yes, I agree absolutely with this. F12 should no longer leave the desktop. Any sensible person should use Ctrl-F12 and if you’re really desperate there’s always the option from the task manager. F12 is just a relic waiting to catch out the uninitiated :( |

perhaps, but VERY useful if ‘getting out of trouble’ with no valid screen shown F12 return wimpmode 31 return return will almost always return the screen to usability. Ctrl-F12 does not provide the same simple interface |

Good point. But it’s still too easy to hit by mistake – perhaps change the key to something like Alt-F12 instead? |

It’s easy to disable it. Put something like this in an obey file in your boot sequence:

Heh, I don’t mean to bang on and on about this but… my point is really that newbies will find leaving the desktop to be disturbing, so suggesting that someone modifies their boot sequence is the wrong way round. Perhaps “Set Alias$Shell ||” should be the default set up in !Boot. Those that want the old F12 functionality can always re-instate it. Adam P.S. I promise not to carry this thread on any longer! ;) |

Newbies better hope someone doesn’t press scroll lock then F12… :) |
