BlueTooth

Was there any headway on a USB to Bluetooth adaptor for RO? What sort of range would it have? (OT can you use a Bluetooth earpiece with a TV (hard of hearing)) |

I did lots of experiments, which were reasonably successful. On that basis I started to write a module. However, I was always stymied by one thing: as soon as I tried to communicate over the bulk endpoint, the dongle fell (or was thrown, I can’t tell) off the bus. That’s where the work stopped, because, whatever I changed, the results were the same. I’ve just started taking an interest in BT again, because BT works in Ubuntu too, and Wireshark captures USB traffic, so I can use it to help me understand what the BT specifications say. |

I know this is a relatively old post…but did you ever get anywhere with Bluetooth? My favourite keyboard has a Bluetooth connection, would be great to use it for my new RISC OS computer! |

I’d also love to use my favourite new Bluetooth keyboard (a Logitech K380) with RISC OS. I’ve often thought that end-user features like Bluetooth would be worthwhile bounty additions, and would balance the more techy under-the-hood stuff. |

Hmm. It’d be quite nice to be able to use my Mac Bluetooth keyboard (and trackpad) with the Pi – as long as it was reasonably easy to switch them from Mac to Pi and back, ideally in the same action as switching the monitor (which is done using the monitor’s remote – but of course the Mac and the Pi are both wired to the monitor). I’d contribute to a bounty for that, but I can’t say I’m optimistic about the prospects for it. Shunting a wireless keyboard and trackpad out of the way and substituting a wired keyboard and mouse isn’t such a big deal. |

Probably not as simple as you would hope. I have a Bluetooth keyboard I use with the iPad and sometimes with my phone. In switching from one device to the other, I need to pair it with the device I want to use – not difficult, switch to pairing mode on the keyboard, go to Bluetooth optons, choose to pair with device, type six digit code on keyboard… not difficult but tedious. So I mostly use the keyboard with iOS only, saves all the pairing nonsense. |

That was my guess. At best as you describe – I’ve had that palaver pairing this keyboard with either my Mac or our son’s, never mind with a Pi. |

Ah but take a look at the little keyboard I mentioned, the Logitech K380. It allows easy switching between three different paired devices. In my case it would allow easy switching between the Mac, iPad and Pi running RISC OS. I know there are more important things to do under the hood but this would be a nice end-user feature, especially for people just checking out RISC OS for the first time. |

If there was that, and a trackpad as nice as the Mac “Magic” one that could also switch easily between Mac and Pi, the world would be perfect! I see the K380 is pretty much the same size as the Mac Magic keyboard – which I find absolutely fine for touch-typing. |

Hi is there any progress made on this. I mean code wise. I was thinking of trying to get the WiFi and Bluetooth on the RPi 3 to work. But is there is already code available I would love to hear from it. |
