ShareFS again

Ref: ShareFS with Beagleboard/Iyonix I initially found that ShareFS was useable in pulling small files across from the Iyonix but its slow speed with larger files becomes an issue. Trying to push files from the Iyonix is a no-no due to regular crashes. I then discovered I could use the Moonfish/Sunfish combo to push files over to the BB. What a shame to discover it only works one way because Sunfish is incompatible with the BB. Anyone know if Alex Waugh is working on a compatible version? |

SunFish works on the BB but it does not do auto discover. |

Many thanks for your reply Jan – I’m sorry for late reply. Had another look at it and once you get passed the errors and enter the IP address of the host machine you can open the share exactly as you have stated. However to load Sunfish, AE must be OFF – not an ideal situation. Transfer speed is a considerable improvement over ShareFS but sadly Moonfish/Sunfish freezes my BB immediately after transferring many files (directory containing jpegs, 100-200MB jpegs). This happens irrespective of whether I push the directory from the Iyonix or pull it over to the BB. Jan have you an Iyonix/BB system? If so can you verify Moonfish/Sunfish reliability by pushing a large directory from the Iyonix to the BB – this may need to be done a few times. |

Just to add an option, have you tried using the Samba server and LanManFS (or LanMan98 if you’ve got it)? Samba server from here: http://riscossmbserver.sourceforge.net/ It’s not bug free but it does work. |

No I haven’t – I’ll have a look at this – many thanks. At the moment I’m still investigating the Sunfish/Moonfish option and I think I’m getting somewhere. Jan Rinze gave me a big hint with the fact that Sunfish doesn’t do auto discover meaning that the IP address of the server has to be typed in by hand. I’ll report back on this as it may interest others. |

Sunfish/Moonfish – Beagleboard/Iyonix Setting up Sunfish to run on Beagleboard – hopefully this may help others experiencing difficulties with getting Sunfish to work on their BB……………. 1. Set AE OFF. Note…….. the above assumes Moonfish is running on server. Points to bear in mind………… 1. Transfer speed is considerably faster than ShareFS – 2min 8sec to transfer 62 jpegs (228MB). |
