Global Address Book

Further to my post on acorn.misc I think it would be a good idea to have an OS wide addressbook/calender/to do list manager integrated into the OS. So if I was writing something in say Techwriter I could click on a menu that said something like …. insert address or maybe insert list or insert appointment data etc …. The data would be kept in one location but available to all enabled apps, so if I’m inputting text in Artworks, the spell checker would be the central dictionary. I know one can copy and paste now which isnt too much of a bind but I’m thinking of copying an entry not just a ‘field’. |

Some kind of OS interface to a service of that kind could be useful. At the back end, though, it would be wise to have a plug-in style mechanism. Storing address book data locally is important, but being able to integrate with Web APIs for remote storage is vital too; that way, address book data can be synchronised between multiple computers and mobile devices given an appropriate network connection. Given a good enough API and software support, eventually something like Organiser ought to be able to sync with things like iCal, or vice versa. |

I think a global bookmark system would be useful. One repository for all bookmarks regardless of browser. If book marks could be added to multipage text or other documents that would be good too. |
