File Recognition

One of my main uses for RISC OS is to confirm that my websites still work on RISC OS browsers. When I installed Virtual Acorn I set up a symbolic link to my websites directory (instructions on how to do this are in a thread I started in the RPCEmu forum: I think it was called ‘a hint for Mac users’). This worked marvellously: VA recognized my html files as html files and browsers loaded them correctly, allowing me to see if I needed to change anything before uploading to websites. Unfortunately, RPCEmu sees my html files as text files. If I set type to html, RISC OS adds a suffix, which means MAC OS X cannot recognize them as html files. A fairly minor problem: doesn’t take long to set type for RO then remove the suffix for MAC OS, but I’d still rather not have to do it. |

So RPCEmu is putting “,faf” on the ends of the filenames? Is it a problem with your MIMEMap file? I think whether the suffix is needed may depend on whether .html is a recognised extension in the MIMEMap file. That’s certainly how it’s implemented with some other things like the SunFish NFS client, but perhaps RPCEmu has not implemented it like this? I may be talking rubbish. You may be better off in the RPCEmu forum on this site, or asking on the RPCEmu e-mail list. |
