Surely you’ve been here long enough to know about ModuleDB ? |

Uh… <sheepish> no… I’d forgotten that </sheepish> Would have saved me a LOT of time in working out what certain modules were comprised of, you know, when it wasn’t obvious. It’s okay. If we ever meet in person, you can facepalm me. I deserve it. |

Do you ever program in your sleep? I do. Last night I realised the documentation of R1 is wrong. It is not “the size of the buffer”. Updating the documentation… |

It happened to me once years ago: one afternoon, we were 3 to look at our code without understanding what was causing our problem. The next morning I opened my eyes in my bed and the far from trivial cause and the solution popped immediately in my mind. Wished it occurred more often. |

No. I kind of imagine it would look like something out of The Matrix. I know what you mean though. Sometimes if there is a bug or problem that is annoying me, I tend to just leave the computer and go for a walk, watch a zombie flick, whatever. Another thing that works is to bring in a cat, plop it on the desk, and explain the code line by line to the cat. Assuming said furry creature doesn’t get bored and wander off (though bribery through lots of stroking and kibble can be useful), you will discover that cats are remarkably good at debugging. They’d probably also be better at us than writing code if we didn’t keep presenting them with such assinine input methods as a flat press-sensitive object with weird scribblings on it. |
