Can anyone explain what the following means please?

Move emulated CMOS from self modifying the ROM to a discrete file, eg. by repurposing the DEVICE_TREE or RAMFS_FILE loading capability (of more recent Pi firmware) to preload the settings prior to boot – can then also enable POST checksum

The ‘RAMFS_FILE loading capability’ looks interesting…
