Red Squirrel Support

If one instruction provides a choice, it seems churlish1 not to. But this is assuming that this one small change is all that is necessary.

I’ve been testing RO5 on Red Squirrel for two days and have both ADFFS and games running under ADFFS’ JIT on it without any changes. It’s about as accurate an emulation of an IOMD machine as you can currently get.

Sorry, completely forgot to mention you also need the 32bit compliant HostFS podule. I’ve now written a how to on the JASPP forum with all the steps to get RO5 running under Red Squirrel.

Rick, I think you’ve misunderstood. I’m not proposing skipping the POST anywhere (on real hardware or emulator).

1) let the POST run
2) detect potential failure
3) output the failure in some way (flash floppy drive light, pulse POST header pins on the mobo are the traditional way) (this is code is buried in the CVS history somewhere for 3.7 etc)
4) do not stop RO starting on POST fail (this is the proposed change to a more ‘traditional’ behaviour)

1 and 2 are what RO5 currently does, 1, 2, 3 and 4 are what RO2/3/4/6 does

I would have thought POST only effected hardware ROM machines.
If softload was used – the machine must have passed whatever OS it was booted on.

Back to the video bandwidth – I notice that if RPCemu has video set to 0 – it suffers the same problem – with very restricted screen modes/plenty of video/ram detected – like RSq/VRPC.

Not sure happens – when someone is pushing the output of VIDC of a real RPC.

Akin to my situation yesterday morning: “Email and all the servers are down” sayeth the helpdesk manager.
Nope, much to the relief of the server guys their servers were up. My main router however was having a major toys out. Wonderful way to lose two and half hours if you like that kind of thing.

Was a decision made about my code change suggestion? Is it likely to get implemented?

Jon, if your question is directed to ROOL I suggest emailing them. I think Steve is the only member who regularly reads the Forum and I suspect he could easily miss some posts.
