Out of interest, if LanManFS now supports encrypted passwords, what are the remaining advantages of LanMan98? |

Thanks Colin, I’ll try it on monday at work… |

The major selling point of LanMan98 was long filename support and faster transfer, I think the password aspect came later. With full UNC support in LanManFS then the 98 version is probably redundant on RO5.x Still a valid product for people on old OS revisions though. |

What about the ability to set no types or not that is in 98 or is that something that is either configurable in LanManfs or available via a 3rd party app. |

Hello there Thanks |

Can, does or could lanmanfs output any connection and login info so that tracing access faults are easier. |

Have you confirmed you can connect from another Windows machine? By default the Firewall will block access and if you see error 83 it could be various other issues preventing connection. You may also need to knock down the LM security level in the registry as its forced to NTLMv2 past XP – I may be wrong (I’ve not tested to confirm) but you may need NTLMv1 for sharing to work. Might be worth checking what level of LM the Stora NAS is working on and set Windows 8.1 the same. |

Win 7, the support for NTLMv1 or v2 is there and the client / server negotiate. I think Colins changes may cover the issue. No chance with RO v5.20 though so Ron needs to knock Win8 security back down until the changes are in the main stream. |

With vanilla Windows 7 it negotiated and had a default value of 0 I believe, I seem to recall pushing out an urgent Windows Update in Sept/Oct that forced NTLMv2 after a zero day vulnerability was discovered so believe the default LM compatibility level is now 3 on both Windows 7 and 8.1. If the registry value is missing, you’d probably need to add it as 0 to re-enable NTLMv1 negotiation. |

Try the *lminfo command to show your current connection/login details |

You won’t be able to connect with the current ROOL lanman to windows 8 if you have a password to log on to your windows machine. I found I needed to disable my laptop password and, if I remember correctly, give the shared folder everyone permissions. Lanman only does plaintext passwords and windows 8 won’t accept them – XP will. I have a version working with windows 8 which does LMv2 (not NTLMv2 – I think NTLMv2 is linked to using unicode) passwords which is the purpose of this thread. Hopefully if there are no problems with my experimental version ROOL will put it in the rom |
