More on Unicode and applications

Sorry if this is slightly off topic for the “Code review” forum, but the UniCode postings seem to be in this section, and rather than hijack one of those existing threads, I thought it best to start a fresh one in the same place. We’ve had several requests to enhance UniCode support in Messenger Pro. I think Colin did some preliminary work on this around the MPro 4 era, but a cursory check through the code doesn’t reveal a great deal. I’ve personally not had any experience of dealing with UTF-8 and the various ramifications, nor displaying extended characters that would result. So, I was wondering whether one of those people who have some familiarity might be willing to assist in this. I appreciate it is a big “ask”, but email is one of the big areas where UniCode is important, and therefore it would be a useful step forward. |

Use rufl from NetSurf to allow reasonable compromise Unicode support on all versions of RISC OS going back to RO4? |

I believe that’s part of the plan, Rob, thanks :) We should have a version of Mpro on display at the show doing basic UTF-8 rendering of emails/subject/sender. It isn’t final yet, but it is a big step. The big credit goes to Will Blatchley who has been instrumental in this so far. |
