Hi After installing the latest haredisc image I now get the following error when Printers (1.89 28th Feb18) is loaded. Error from class ps: Filing system or path PrintersChoices not present in “Squished SupportPS” Reverting the the previous version of Printer I have, 1.87, loads printers Ok with out the error. I suspect this may be recent chnages in particular: Write through the right system variable Remove the misuse of PrinterChoices$Path for writing through
Drop support for the define ‘UseChoices’; always use them. Global search and replace of PrinterChoices: for <Printers$ChoicesRW>. (cf. Boot$ChoicesRW). Version 1.88. Tagged as ‘Manager-1_88’ Any ideas where to look? |

Right I’ve tried it on another nachine and got the same issues. So I’ve now deleted !Boot.Choices.Boot and also !Boot.Choices.Printers and then reinstalled everything again including !PS3, !UniPrint, PDFMaker, PrintPDF etc and it now works OK. So something didn’t like my set up on two machines. One interesting thing I noticed is that if I just deleted !Boot.Choices.Printers and reboot then the screen just defaulted to a low resolution one and I couldn’t reset to either the EDID setup or a previously working MDF as it said it could not find the choices directory? This happened on both machines after installing the latest ROMS and Hard Disc image. So perhaps more than one issue as it appeared that the Boot sequence may have been stalling when just deleting the Choices.Printers directory. Still may be good time to spring clean things and it’s now working on both machines. |

Well a bit more of an update in that !PrtSet2USB by Ian Hamilton would not work due to the changes so as it was a basic program I did a temporary job of altering it, with the help of a pointer from Rob Sprowson. Following on Ian Hamilton has done a new version and also updated !PrintSpool as well so a big thanks to Rob and also Ian for all their help. Finally I’ve sent a note to RComp about PDFMaker as that seems to keep it’s own copy of things in !Boot.Choices.Printers.ps and seems to be tripping up things with the changes in !Printers 1.88/9. Hopefully this will be looked at when Andrew is in a fit enough state to do anything once he has recovered from his injured arm. |

Isn’t that where Printers keeps your local choices? I don’t think it has anything much to do with PDFMaker, aside from that using the PS printing system to generate input for GhostScript. |

Steve, From my discussions with Rob Sprowson this is the potential issue with PDFMaker that throws up an issue with Printers 1.88/89 onwards. When PDFMaker installs it takes a full copy of the ps directory contents from the version of Printers installed on the machine at the time. When Printers 1.88/89 are installed on the machine and it is run it finds that older full copy in the !Boot.Choices.Printers.ps directory as that copy is seen before Printers$Path kicks in and that throws up the error. Either PDFMaker only wants a subset of the files or there needs to be a check somewhere. Either way deleting Choices.Printers and reinstalling PDFMaker, along with the other Printer PDF’s, on all 4 machines I have cures the issue when upgrading to Printers 1.88/89. Well at least here it does. |

After upgrading to the latest HardDisc image, I get a warning from the Printer Manager (Printers 1.89) following loading !Printers as follows. After doing a “Save Choices” and quitting !Printers, reloading is back to normal. In the one changed file, Settings, in Choices.Printers two lines have been changed: Under “PostScript Level 1” ct: 16_1 is now ct: 16_0 and similarly under “PostScript Level 2”. |
