Bug in snapper?

I am trying to make a screenshot of my whole desktop using !Snapper, with “screen” option selected. I used “Use save path” as a save method, set save format to PNG, and then I saved my choices. I take screenshots using default key trigger (left ctrl+alt). I noticed that when the “Snapper control” window is open, but hidden beyond other windows, the snapshot is taken as PNG, just as I wanted. But when I close the window (or quit the !Snapper) the screenshot is always a Sprite. Am I doing something wrong, or is it a bug in !Snapper? |

No and no. When you quit snapper or close the control window, then the screen grab is carried out by the module (called Spell, because it is a subset of the full Spell module). The nodule can only use the standard OS method to take a screen grab, and so the only option is to save as a sprite. If you are using version 1.32 of Snapper, there is an option ‘hide control window on screen grab’. When this is selected, the open control window is temporarily pushed behind the screen backdrop/pinboard during the actual grab. If you are taking screen grabs when outside the desktop, hence using the module, then I am afraid sprite is the only save option. It looks like there is a mea culpa, since having just checked the help file, I haven’t updated it to include that new option to hide the control window. |

Thank you for the explanation Chris! Now I understand why it works the way it does. As for the “hide control window on screen grab” option, I was using !Snapper bundled with RISC OS 5.23, which seems to be an older version, because it lacks this feature. I downloaded the latest version of !Snapper with !PackMan and now everything works perfectly. Thanks!!! |

I guess ROOL do not have the time or resources to keep checking whether there are updates to the software they include in their packages, whenever they make a new release. I always include a web button in the Info window of all my apps to make checking for newer versions easy. |

It’s actually simpler than that; the latest Snapper is newer than the RC15 (latest) image. |
