WindowManager and Wimp_SetCaretPosition

On a slightly less spelling-related note, I have just submitted a fix to the error Martin reported. The bug relates to Wimp_SetCaretPosition being called with a valid window handle, but a window that is not currently open. This led to unpleasantness. The update now returns the correct error instead (Input focus window not found) and doesn’t die horribly. There are a couple of tiny tweaks as well that are more cosmetic.

With any luck the new binaries will be available soon.

Nope, like many other things the Americans didn’t invent that. The use is well before the Pilgrim Fathers and, I think, rather before the discovery of the other side of the pond by documented European travels. BTW. Old favourite – LASER is spelled exactly like that and anything else is wrong.

I was suggesting – asserting – that as WS used this it was already in common English usage in the time of the Pilgrim Fathers, who took it to the Americas, from where it, mistakenly, was perceived as an Americanism!

That’s an acronym, so undeniably, like NATO, demands capitalisation. This is contradicted by Google, but we know we’re right!

Possibly. It was the labelling as an Americanism that did it – if you’d used quotes round “Americanism” it would have suggested that the label was wrong.

I think the main point is that for a variety of reasons words like gotten were falling out of use and the American use is a sort of linguistic appendix (nobody is quite sure why it’s there)

Americanism, with or without quotes, is inherently wrong!

I can confirm that the 5.27 ROM dated today 19th Dec with Wimp v5.66 resolves the Organizer startup problem. Thanks to Ron for alerting me of the problem, and Andy for fixing this promptly.

Hi Andy, thanks for the good work.
Whilst you’re looking at clipboard things I wonder if you could swot two related bugs/features that crept into EDIT in 2015 when it had some global clipboard features added and CTRL C and CTRL V changed.
One is listed in Bugs
This bug makes some frequent search and replaces I do blind!

The other is a ‘feature’ I find very annoying, if say you have a blank edit file and paste at the top of the page with CTRL V a block of text that ends with a blank line nothing seems to happen but if you scroll up the text will be there! I’ve often ended up pasting more than one copy in. Previously the text was inserted downwards with the cursor left at the end of the pasted block.

I hope I’ve described that adequately.
