No Network Connectivity with 10MBit Hub on Raspberry Pi

I have been trying out RiscOS RC6 for the raspberry pi and found myself permanently without network connectivity. The ethernet lights on the board just as well as the one on the hub stayed dark.
My Hub does only 10MBit and that seems to be the problem.
Everything is working fine when I connect the rpi directly to my devolo ethernet device which can do 100MBit too(really 85MBit, but the Ethernet 100MBit standard).
