I do wonder about what’s inside a trackball.

We all had those at Physiology back in the 1990s. I’ve cleaned the rollers in a lot of those over the years. Happily the ball still touches the rollers even when they’ve been cleaned.

I’ve actually still got some of them – one day I’ll convert one to USB for my Pi…they’re 1,000,000% better than meeces.

I find it’s not the balls that are the problem, it’s a little band of crud stuck to the rollers that the ball rolls.

Hence my comment about sanitiser since the alcohol content cuts through the skin grease and helps clean off the general “crud” from users hands.
Thus fast build up of “crud” nolonger occurs.

There’s also the secondary use for the sanitizer of cleaning the kit.
All irrelevant with modern optical mice.
