Pressing ESC while copying DVD stiffs the machine

I made a little program to backup my Video DVDs to HD which uses CD_ReadData to read the sectors and replaces corrupted sectors by blank data.

Unfortunately when encountering corrupted sectors, the copy slows to a crawl due to the retries and I press ESC to stop the copy in order to clean the disc surface since most of the time that’s the origin of the corruption.

The problem is that most of the time, a few seconds after pressing ESC, the machine (PI3 OS 5.29 from 24-Nov-2020) stops responding (except for the mouse still moving) and I have to remove the power cycle the machine.

I have no idea where the problem comes from. We have CDDriver + SCSI on the reading side and Fat32FS + SCSI on the writing side.
