!Sprites validation

The Wimp doesn’t appear to do any validation on !Sprites when loading it from !Apps folders, not even a simple file type check. This can result in some nice crashes if !Sprites isn’t a Sprite file. I’ve not looked to see if it’s the !App code or the Sprites loader code at fault. |

If you do
then all the theme sprites disappear from the desktop (but you also get the error ‘Bad sprite file’). Is this the effect you saw? |

No, I was seeing a full system crash and needed to SHIFT-Boot and delete the offending file to get the OS to boot. I tested on a fairly recent OS build and went right back to 3.11, they all crashed in the same way. I think I’d mistakenly named a PNG file !Sprites or !Sprites22 in a !App folder that was being looked at during boot. When I get a chance I’ll work out a Repro. |
