cc 5.88: default arch/cpu?

Are the (alleged) compiler defaults¹ of -cpu XScale and -arch 2 different when any other options are specified?

Just noticed that a couple of object files contain MOVW/MOVT pairs to assemble single precision constants with -apcs /softfp (double precision constants seem OK). Thankfully, specifying -arch 2 makes them go away as this code is intended to be usable on older systems as well!

Are any macros available for -arch/-cpu information to allow source tuning?

Note that if you’ve used !Builder to select an environment (such as iMx6, or another ARMv7ish one) the cc you run is actually an alias which sets the CPU and/or arch explicitly. So even if you just type cc myprog.c the defaults aren’t being used, because the environment you selected overrides them.

I had rebooted since building ROMs earlier – but just fired up !Builder once to check that my start-up env script cleared down stuff like the Build$Path, Alias$Prefix that otherwise more obviously got in my way. Why didn’t I spot Alias$CC (should have gone to SpecSavers, eh?) and Alias$ObjAsm
