Raspberry Pi mouse

I am using a Raspberry Pi keyboard and mouse with an Rpi 4B using RO5.28. Every now and then the mouse crashes, and the pointer cannot be moved. Knowing no better, I have to switch off. On my Linux machine, if the mouse ceases to operate, I find that disconnecting it from its USB port and reconnecting, usually gets it functioning again – no switching off needed. But this method does not work with RO 5.28. I presume the problem is a USB one. Does RISC OS use a daemon coroutine to be on the watch for what is connected? Any advice gratefully accepted.

Are you using the keyboard hub for the mouse? ISTR there’s an issue with that.

USB Hubs on XHCI must comply strictly with the spec or they won’t work. Pi 4B will reject flaky hubs.

I had been plugging the mouse into the USB port on the Raspberry Pi keyboard. Now I have plugged it into the remaining USB2 slot on the Pi itself. No problems so far. What is XHCI? Don’t tell me the official Raspberry Pi keybord/mouse combo is non-compliant!
