Softload RO5.21 on Iyonix

Is there any reason that Softload RO5.21 over 5.16 doesn’t work – run from Run? Softload gives info – Npages =31744 FreeSize =0K Also !Oregano seems to be working with Aemulor RO5.21 Iyonix. Softload seems to work ok – from RO5.21 over 4.02 – with my RPC. |

Is there any reason that Softload RO5.21 over 5.16 doesn’t work – run from Run? I softload 5.20 from !Boot.Choices.Boot.PreDesk under RISC OS 5.16 on my Iyonix. Changing the ROM to the 5.18 ROM or the 5.21 ROM should also work surely? |

I gather you may need the latest !boot and for some reason you need to merge the old one to the new one an not the new one to the old one. It may be worth hiding your existing !boot and installing the new one just to try it out. Perhaps someone else can confirm this I read it somewhere on this site I think. |

With the Iyonix – I am trying to load the RO5.xx file early on – from the ‘Run’ file – like I do on my RPC. (lot faster booting) Unless the ‘SoftLoad’ program needs extra modules from !Boot – whats in !boot shouldn’t effect things :-| SoftLoad says there is no memory – (if I read the info given out correctly -details given above) |

My Iyonix (which is sadly no longer useable) used to have a similar setup. I modified the $.!Boot.Utils.BootRun file to include | Restart with soft loaded ROM image if the Run file exists This was positioned after the first Set Alias sequence and preceded by an AddToRMA 256 command. |

Tried AddToRMA – no joy :-( !Softload runs from within Desktop but if you drop out to command line – not enough memory – like running it from Run. With ref to your Iyonix problems – sounds like a smoothing Capacitor gone O/C. Perhaps worth trying a new Capacitor across the low voltage out. |

Update:- Found a command *FreePool -which seems to solve the Memory problem. Added *FreePool to Softload’s !Run file. (see below) Set SoftLoad$Dir <Obey$Dir> RMEnsure UtilityModule 3.50 *FreePool Run <SoftLoad$Dir>.SoftLoad -m 12M <Softload$Dir>.RO_523.RO_2016-Aug-09 .NONE. |
