Beagle xM ROM & HD4 14/01/14

I downloaded the latest ROM and HD4 last night to see what improvements have been made and do some testing. I’ve noticed a few issues so far. I don’t know if anyone else is seeing these, but I’ll list them here: - Configure Fonts: Unable to select the font – the font list at the top of the window is missing ChangeFSI(?): Causes Decor (backdrop changer) to crash when loading JPEGs (I assume it is CFSI that is causing this) Messenger: Not sure what this is related to, but I can no longer delete messages from the mailbox viewer (showing the list of mails within a mailbox), only by opening each mail and deleting from the mail viewer – it definitely worked before the upgrade. The problem is the same whether using the delete button, the menu option or the keyboard shortcut. |

On the Messenger side, there’s more than just delete functionality that no longer works, it also fails to move/copy messages between mailboxes and some of this affects the mail viewer as well as the message list viewer. This is with Messenger 7.06 and has only changed since upgrading. I’ll swap the ROM image back again tonight to see if it’s the ROM or the disc image having this effect. |

Font setup is now only used for installing fonts and configuring the font manager. If you want to change the font used in the desktop (the way the desktop looks) set it in the Theme setup plugin along with the other desktop-look-y type stuff. Note: some other aspects of theme setup are bust at the moment due to a problem with the auto builder, which is why the ZIP file is much smaller than normal. Dunno about Decor or Messenger. Try narrowing it down a bit? |

I’ve just reverted the ROM to the previously used version (filer info dates it as 08/07/13) and all the functionality has returned to Messenger. I haven’t reverted the HD contents (too hard for a quick test). I’ll run some more tests with Decor in a moment with the old ROM and the earlier and latest versions of CFSI. |

OK – with the older ROM (08/07/13) and the latest CFSI Decor is OK displaying the JPEG backdrops (1680 × 1050 images – no need to rescale), so it again looks like something in the ROM changes, not CSFI. No need to revert CFSI and retest. I don’t know if Decor even uses CFSI, but it was my first thought for converting JPEGs for display on the pinboard and knowing it had been through some changes recently. Decor is version 4.20 by Peter Naulls. The help file says it uses SpriteExtend > 0.99 |

Grahame I have tried 15th Jan 14 ROM and HardDisc image on my Beagleboard and with MesengerPro I don’t see the issues you have. In the “Incoming mail” view for one of my mail boxes if I select an email and go via then use the mouse menu to go to the Delete ^K option I get a message pop up asking me to confirm if I want to delete and on confirming it will select the email for deletion. Likewise highlighting the message and doing Ctrl K on it gives the same message and result on confirmation. I have also tried moving them to another mailbox. Have you anything running at boot up that could be causing this issue? |

Between the last two tests the only change has been the ROM, so I don’t think it’s related to the boot sequence or what is run at boot. With the newer ROM I can’t delete from the mailbox viewer or move/copy from either the mailbox or the mail viewers. Move/Copy appears to work as it goes through the actions, but the mail isn’t moved/copied. Delete doesn’t respond with the confirmation box. It’s rather a bizarre type of problem that doesn’t occur with the earlier ROM. Run at boot runs LdBglSprite, Sunfish, FullNames, Organiser, 7bupstats, CPUTmpMon, Decor (only with the older ROM), DigitalCD, StrongEd & Printers (in that order), but these are the same with both ROMs (Decor excepted). LookAt contains SwiftJpeg, StrongHlp, DigitalCD, NewsDir, Moonfish & PrintPDF and is the same with both ROMs. With regards the Theme/font issue, it would be useful if the font size could also be set in the Theme. Currently I’m using Paul Vigay’s MiscSetup for the desktop font size. |

Grahame One thing worth trying is to backup your !Boot.Choices.boot files and then delete the old ones and reconfigure from scratch as changes from earlier ROMS/!Boot setups sometimes have caused issues. If it works Ok from a clean install then reset up your system as to your own tastes. I had to do this on one of the 5.21 changes around Oct onwards and was an opportunity to clear a lot of clutter and old settings. |

You’re probably right, it’s worth the try. I’ll have to wait until the weekend though and report back here if there’s still any problems. |

Sorry for taking so long to get back on this – I didn’t get a chance last weekend after all. A couple of nights ago I was playing with the SD card trying different ROM images to see where it went wrong, but found that the ROMs weren’t being updated as I expected. ROMs on the SD that I was deleting or renaming reappeared on the next mount so in the end I re-imaged the whole SD card with the ROM from 20th Jan and so far all has been well. |
