Undefined instruction at &201CFBA0

I’ve been discussing an error that crops up unpredictably on my ARMiniX (Panda) and it seems it also occurs on other hardware. So I’m wondering if it is an OS bug or one in the loading/bootup process. On most occasions the problem doesn’t show and a power on and bootup go fine. But occasionally I get: The modules get listed and I’m told that the modules have all been initialised. There is then a pause of 15 – 25 sec. The screen blanks and I get the ‘Piccolo systems SDFS’ legend appear at the top of the screen. This is then followed by Error: Internal error: Undefined instruction at &201CFBA0 and the process stalls. Have to switch off the power and on again to restart the whole process. I can’t find any clear pattern or diagnostic for when this may occur. Usually the process continues and I get the desktop and a working machine. The precise address sometimes alters a little. e.g. may end in ‘4’ rather than ‘0’. And others say they also get slightly different values. The is an ARMiniX running the R-Comp version of RO5.19, but I’ve been told it also appears on other machines although the value may differ a little. ‘Where’ tells me the address is not in a module. I have the impression it is more common if I have even an (externally powered) USB hub connected to one of the ‘rear’ USB sockets on the Pandaboard. But I’m not sure of this as it is hard to build reliable stats on the rates of occurance and exclude other variables. Anyone diagnose this? Jim |

I may now be able to diagnose and close this myself! I replaced the externally powered USB hub I had connected to the back of my ARMiniX to a different externally powered hub. Since then the problem hasn’t re-occurred. Now free of the problem for over a week. This followed on from my finding that the previous hub was able to send enough 5V line current back up the USB connection to power the ARMiniX when its own mains supply was disconnected! The moral seems to be that some usb hubs behave in ‘unfortunate’ ways. Choose them with care. I only found this because the same hub also produced 485Hz tones and modulation on a USB audio device. I changed hub and the 485Hz went, and so did the undefined instruction problem at bootup. Jim |

Tone of the death <> deftones band. One kills the computers, the other the ears. |

Maybe I don’t know about this because I’ve never bothered with youtube. |

This is a very classic alternative rock band… not a YouTube one. The link was just for reference. I prefer Jazz, but they also kill things with strange sounds, as you hub :) |
