Pi 5.21 / 5.23 build crashing during init

On both the latter 5.21 builds and now on the 5.23 build, it crashes about 1 in 10 times during the boot sequence just after doing the Module init. The error (on 5.23 22/04/15 build) is: Init doneError: DataAbort: Abort on data transfer at &FC01943C Which is immediately followed by: Abort on data transfer at &FC1FA954 Has anyone considered displaying the Module name when an Abort occurs, I see it’s been added to SHOWREGS – might be useful on the daily builds to pinpoint these sorts of crashes. I suspect the problem is in either USB or the Network – but that’s pure speculation. |

Not seen that here. After a terminal crash if the crash might be ROM based I try my luck with *fx0 RISC OS 5.23 (22 Apr 2015) *where fc01943c Address FC01943C is not in any module *where fc1fa954 Address FC1FA954 is at offset 000139D4 in module DWCDriver *help DWCDriver Module is: DWCDriver 0.19 (28 Mar 2015)
If so then Colin’s recent PiROM_01 might be worth a try, I believe that corrects a few more USB-isms.
So is the above, but I hope it might help. |

I say pure speculation…at the point it crashes the keyboard isn’t working and the network stack hasn’t initialised – there’s no link light. I’m not looking for a fix myself – I’m used to the Pi crashing, just reporting to the devs.
Where does one attain this build so I can test? EDIT: I forgot to add that unplugging the keyboard at the Abort doesn’t get it working again. |

PiROM_01 is introduced in this discussion and can be found here, PiRom_01.zip |

Ah, I’ve been following the thread but didn’t realise it affected the Pi as well. I’ll give it a go…thanks. EDIT: Just checked the ROM in that ZIP, it’s build date is before the issues started – so probably not a valid test |

Yes my PiRom includes changes I’ve made to USB, EtherUSB and LanmanFS so it’s good to know that it’s working ok. |

Colin: what transfer speeds are you getting from LanManFS? I’ve been doing some large transfers to NAS recently from Iyonix and BBxM, but the speeds have been miserable. It doesn’t matter so much on small transfers, but when you try to back up an entire disc, it becomes a problem. It’s not just the overhead of small files, either – multi-megabyte files are also miserably slow. I’m using LanMan98, as I have for some years now, but a speed increase would be most welcome. |

The speed increase and extra LANMan capabilities would be welcome all round. It seems like ages since the changes were done. |
