Incorrrect font in Theme Config

I have just created a new copy of RPCEmu with a 5.22 image and harddisc4.
After compleating the installation and reboot, I opened the Theme Config.
The window has “Desktop text uses outline font” ticked and displays garbage as font name
when obviously I am using th system font.

Last option of file config ends with “uses a solid i” which I presume should be “uses a solid icon”.
Pinboard also lacks a few characters in some texts which I presume is due to the use of system font.

As a side note, the page RPCEmu is a little sparse on instructions for users that would like to try RISC OS for the first time. It’s clearly missing a step by step guide: move the rom here, the auto extracting harddisc4 file there, start RPCEDMu, set the filetype of the haddisc4 file, run it, move the extracted files in the correct place, ….

That was what I thought when I created this.

At the time the page you linked to was referencing a very old beta of RO5 IOMD.
The update to the current page came around the time of the ROOL wiki page version. I did, and still do, offer the content of the wiki page here for use on the RPCEmu page.

This is from an existing OS5.23 RPCEmu.

With "Desktop text uses outline font’ ticked what happens on trying to select a font, or is the font list also garbaged. The settings for this are split between CMOS and Choices.Boot.Predesk.ThemeSetup. Homerton is set in CMOS whereas System.Fixed is set in ThemeSetup using the variable Wimp$Font.

It certainly should but I can confirm that if the System Font is in use then the message is truncated. In !FilrSetup’s res file there is insufficient room for the Option Button text when in System Font, even though length is set to *. This can clearly be seen using !ResED. Altering the length to 36, the value that appears on clicking on the raise button when* is set corrects this.

Truncated in System.Fixed, displays OK in System.Medium.

I don’t see the garbage characters in the menu drop downs, but System.Fixed also gives LHS clip of the M in “Monitor type” under the Screen configuration and the S of “Settings” in the Screensaver settings button.
Clearly only a problem for instances of fixed width font use.
