Booting from external usb hard disk

I’m trying to boot instead of the usb stick from an external usb hd 2,5" i have first fomatted it in fat and after fomatted with HForm, the drive is readeable, i have copyed all the folders present in the usb stick, rebooted but with no success. Have i to set the hard disk from Discs?

Yes. Set ‘Conventional SCSI’ to 1. You will also need to make the disc bootable by pressing F12 to get to the command line, type Drive 4 to make your HDD the current one then type *FX4 2. Press Enter to get back to the desktop.

Not works!
I have set scsi to 1
entered command line and written Drive 4 the enter and after *FX4 and enter.

with the usb stick attached it boot but only with external hd it doesent. : (

You also need to set it to boot from drive 4..

Senility would be a wonderful thing, if only I could remember where I put it.

Can be i make am error but i’m still not able to boot from the hd.

Just to double check, can you please try the following;
1. Boot the Beagleboard with your USB hard disk connected. (wait for the desktop)
2. Press F12
3. Type configure filesystem scsi (Press Enter)
4. Type configure scsifsdrive 4 (Press Enter)
5. Type scsi (Press Enter)
6. Type drive 4 (Press Enter)
7. Type opt 4,2 (Press Enter)
8. Press Shift+Break

Another thought is that if you don’t have a ‘CMOS widget’ installed then unless you save the CMOS settings and copy the CMOS file to the SD card then the configuration won’t survive a reboot.

I will try this order : ). but i’m still waiting for the CMOS widget and the usb stick from ROOL.

what kind of key is the Break?
Do you know how to set the time and date and save it in the cmos?

The time and date cannot be saved in the CMOS – it would soon be out of date anyway!

There should be a key labelled ‘Break’ on the keyboard somewhere! (Mine is on the top right)
You can’t save the time and date to the cmos, you need to either fit a battery for the onboard clock chip, or get the BeagleBoard to set it’s time from the Internet using ‘NetTime’

Great! The info about NetTime above will also work on the Pandaboard!

only one issue when it boot the desktop i have a message that say Please insert disc “HardDisk0” how can i remove this?

i have resolved resetting boot.
