Sargasso RSS feed Reader

The Hermes connection could be a red herring. However, on probably three occasions I have been viewing a Sargasso listing when the Hermes fetch window appeared on screen (autofetch). Sargasso died at the same time.

Here, I find Hermes blocks keyboard input for a few seconds when fetching. If I keep typing, keys get missed. This might be causing timeouts for you.

Do you guys not have a file !Sargasso.Sargasso/log ? That might shed some light on what is happening.

Nothing inside the log file.

I have the same problem. If I click and scroll on the scroll bar of Sargasso while Hermes is working, then Sargasso crashes.

Does Sargasso only crash when Hermes is fetching? What about downloading stuff with, say, NetSurf?

Does Hermes fetching trigger unexpected behaviour in other applications?

Yikes! That sounds like it is blocking interrupts (some keys should be buffered).

What about downloading stuff with, say, NetSurf?

I find that using the scroll wheel on the mouse while Hermes is fetching & displaying fetch progress can sometimes crash !HID and require a reset to get back wheel scroll functionality. I think I’ve seen somewhere that this might be down to the Hermes progress dialogue taking focus but not handling the scroll events, but I don’t have the details.

Also, when MPro is debatching or moving items between folders, this can interrupt the movement of the pointer on screen, often causing it to jump over to the right or bottom of the screen.

So there’s definitely a couple of places in mail fetching/debatching that might cause issues with other programs. All this using an ARMX6 with the current RComp release version of RISC OS (can’t see it at the moment as I’m working upstairs on the PC).

Has anyone tried Sargasso v2.05 with RPCEmu on Windows? On mine, it crashes RPCEmu totally – it simply disappears!

I see the Sargasso window appear briefly, but then Pffff! everything is gone!

Has anyone tried Sargasso v2.05 with RPCEmu on Windows? On mine, it crashes RPCEmu totally – it simply disappears!

Tried it with RPCEmu on Ubuntu 18.04 and the Mac, both with the same disappearing act.

The log from Linux was more complete.

Tested with NetSurf fetching a page: no crash.

There’s an updated version of Sargasso 2.0.6pre2 available here.

This version no longer tries to re-use an existing connection when updating a feed. This was one of the reasons for Sargasso quitting if the connection had expired at the other end.
The maximum simultaneous fetches has been increased to 5 from 3.
Now linked with the latest version of libcurl 7.69.1 and libssl 1.0.2u.

Doesn’t look like there is one.

Is the intention that Sargasso remembers when items have been read between launches? When I quit and launch the app, everything is marked as new again.

The feeds are currently loaded into memory only so when Sargasso is quit and re-launched everything is marked as new.
It would be a useful feature for a future version.

I have had this new version on my iconbar since I saw the post. It looks much more stable – it has not exited at all. Thanks Chris.

I think I spoke too soon. I ran the new version this morning and it seemed fine. However, after going out to do a bit of gardening, I came back and Sargasso had vanished from the iconbar.
